Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has stated that the fight against corruption is not just a legal obligation, but a moral duty that safeguards the rights of every citizen. The Vice President made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the International Forum on Integrity 2025.
The Vice President highlighted that the theme of this year's forum – "Strengthening Integrity and Combating Corruption in the Tourism Sector" – is both timely and deeply relevant. He emphasised that integrity and ethical tourism are fundamental in building investor confidence and community trust. He added that transparency and accountability are essential for sustainability, strengthening global reputation, and fostering long-term growth, especially in maintaining the Maldives' status as a premier tourism destination.
Speaking about collaborative efforts, the Vice President stated that the role of governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organisations is crucial for capacity building and innovation. He noted that clear policies, effective monitoring, enforcement mechanisms, and regular evaluation are necessary to ensure these practices are upheld and continuously improved.
The Vice President stressed the need for building systems that empower whistleblowers, protect those who speak out, and make integrity the standard, not the exception. He further emphasised that anti-corruption bodies must not only be independent but also well-resourced and free from political interference.
His Excellency Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority of Saudi Arabia, presented the Vice President with a token of appreciation in recognition of the enduring friendship and shared commitment to mutual cooperation between the two nations.
The two-day International Forum on Integrity, held for anti-corruption organisations from the member nations of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is attended by more than 180 participants.
