Male’ City Mayor Adam Azim has completed the Asia Pacific Mayors Academy, joining a cohort of 12 mayors from six countries across the region.
This year’s participants included mayors from Areiy Ksat and Kampong Chhnang in Cambodia; Banda Aceh in Indonesia; Hulu Selangor in Malaysia; Birendranagar, Dhulikhel, Inaruwa, Manarashiswa, Musikot, and Suryodaya in Nepal; and Del Carmen in the Philippines, apart from Mayor Azim.
The mayors took part in the academy’s “Navigating a Multi-Crisis Context” module, which focused on strategies to manage disasters, build resilience, and address future urban challenges. The program featured expert-led sessions on climate action, waste management, flood control, and policy integration.
Launched in 2019, the Asia Pacific Mayors Academy is a joint initiative by UN ESCAP, UN-Habitat, and UCLG ASPAC, in collaboration with UNU-IAS, APRU, and IGES. It provides targeted training for newly elected or appointed mayors in the region, combining online learning with practical city-level projects to address local challenges
The 2025 cohort was launched virtually on April 29, 2025. The program includes online modules and remote collaboration.
