Former President Mohamed Nasheed has been summoned to Police Integrity Commission following a case submitted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Nasheed was summoned at 11:10 today, regarding a case on Police brutality against the public during the protest held by MDP on 8 February 2012, the first day of President Waheed’s government.
Nasheed was accompanied by member of his team of lawyers and former cabinet secretary Hisaan Hussain; and former Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports Hassan Latheef.
Speaking to Sun after attending Police Integrity Commission, Nasheed said that he himself was subjected to Police brutality on 8 February, and that he had included this in his statement to Police Integrity Commission.
“I gave a statement regarding Police conduct and brutality on 8 February. This statement was regarding a case submitted by MDP. The case is that several members of our party and the public were injured that day,” President Nasheed said.
Nasheed did not disclose any details of the statement he gave to Police Integrity Commission.
Speaking at a press conference held by President Nasheed’s team of lawyers regarding MDP’s investigation into how the government was changed, Macchangolhi Uthuru MP Mariya Ahmed Didi has said that Nasheed is prepared to give statements to institutions which are investigating the transfer of power.
