Defense Minister Adam Shareef Umar have said that the army should distance themselves from politics and remain as an army of integrity.
Speaking at the official ceremony held to mark the 125th anniversary of Maldivian National Defense Force, the minister said that the army shall not be penetrated by political influence and that the duty of the army should always be protecting the government, religion, and the country.
The minister said that the army should always be ready for a terrorist attack which might happen because of political unrest. He said that in the past terrorist attacks in Maldives were always a result of political unrest.
Meanwhile a research regarding terrorism was presented during a conference held in Maldives recently. According to the research terrorist activities start to overthrow governments. It says that, it usually happens when some people are extremely power hungry.
Countries which are ruled justly are stable. Even if there are power hungry people in such countries, since the people lives happily these type of people do not get much support from the public.
