The revision proposed by Kulhudhuffushi-South MP Mohamed Nasheed to the law on Airport Service Charge (ADC) has been withdrawn.
Speaker of Parliament Abdullah Shahid said that the bill will thus not be processed by the Parliament.
The revision proposed by Nasheed was to cease the imposition of all taxes, fees, or any other charges on airports with the enforcement of the law on ADC.
The revision was proposed following permission by former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration to impose ADC of $25 per passenger. This amount could however not be imposed following a Civil Court order.
GMR deducted ADC when it paid concession fees to the government.
Airports Company Limited has stated that GMR is liable pay ADC to the government.
