BML has donated 15,000 Rufiya to Care Society an NGO specializes in providing various services for people with disabilities.
The bank donated this money under their “Aharenge Bank” program and the money will be used to fund various programs for people with disabilities. The money was officially handed over to the NGO in a ceremony held at Care Society this morning. The ceremony was attended by the CEO of BML, Andrew Hilly, Deputy CEO, Director of Operations, staffs of the bank, chairperson of Care Society, management, staffs, and students of Care Society.
The care development center (CDC) run by Care Society conducts various classes for children and adults with disabilities. There is an early intervention program for 0-6-year-old children and a vocational training program for ages 13-60. In addition, CDC conducts MQA accredited disability related trainings to the public and companies.
Speaking about the donation, an official of the bank said that it is a priority of the bank to assist in various developmental areas around the Maldives and especially assisting people with special needs is of high importance to the bank. Also, the official said that they take great happiness in donating the money and they usually focus on programs where most number of people will benefit from it in terms of acquiring skills.
The Executive Director of Care Society, Aminath Naushan Muhaimin said that they will use the money to conduct programs at CDC and to acquire more resources. “Some of the things we need for these children are not so easy to get. Hence financial assistance like this will be extremely beneficial for us” said Naushan.
“Aharenge Bank” campaign is campaign started by BML to strengthen the relation between the bank and the people. BML have stated that they will double the amount they spend on corporate social responsibility programs this year. Also, they have said that they will invest 300 million Rufiyaa this year in various programs.
