Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s wife، Laila Ali has requested assistance from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi، for the protection of her husband over the recent rumours of a conspiracy to assassinate Nasheed.
While giving an interview to India’s Economic Times news، Laila Ali thanked India’s condemnation of the recent government-led arrest of Mohamed Nasheed and his prosecution، however asserts that more work needs to be done in order to release her husband from jail.
In addition to this، Laila told the news that Nasheed’s prosecution was not legit and he wishes Indian government to closely monitor and intervene into the unjust and continued misconduct of the current Maldivian government.
While she is not certain of what necessary actions may be taken to prevent the biased action against Mohamed Nasheed، and the alleged obliteration of law by government towards him، she wishes Indian Prime Minister to do everything in his authority to put a hold on to the unlawful treatment towards the former President of Maldives.
Furthermore، she had revealed to Economic Times of the ongoing attempts at Mohamed Nasheed’s life while he is in cell، by the security forces active inside the premises.
While rumours of an attempted assassination plot against Nasheed is at play، Home Minister Umar Naseer had recently confirmed that a special jail cell is being renovated for Nasheed، which includes various amenities like TV، furniture، Air Conditioner and many other appliances.
