Newly appointed Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim has stated that the UN had not issued definitive instructions on implementation of death penalty.
Speaking to press, Dr. Asim today said the note sent to the Government was a note sent by the UN to inform that the case had been lodged in UN, after it was filed by a party.
He added that the Attorney General was reviewing the note and will issue a press statement on the issue later on.
Dr. Asim also confirmed that a Commonwealth expert will arrive in the Maldives in August, as part of the Government request for assistance in capacity building.
