Customs Seizes MVR 26 Million Worth of Drugs; Bangladeshi National Arrested

Maldives Customs has intercepted a major drug trafficking attempt, seizing 18 kilograms of narcotics with an estimated street value of MVR 26 million during a special operation conducted last night. A Bangladeshi national has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to Home Minister Ali Ihsan, the narcotics were smuggled into the country via an air cargo shipment from Bangalore, India. The drugs were concealed within the shipment and were discovered during a targeted Customs operation.
Police have confirmed that a 35-year-old Bangladeshi man was arrested after he arrived to inspect and clear the shipment. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Minister Ihsan, in a statement posted on social media, praised the vigilance of the Customs officers and reiterated the government's commitment to tackling drug trafficking under the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the contents of the cargo or whether additional suspects are being pursued. The police are actively investigating the matter.
