Two men from Sh. Foakaidhoo, arrested as suspects in a major theft case, is seeking release from custody, citing that both their mothers require dialysis.
Two Foakaidhoo natives – Hassan Rasheed Ahmed, 30, Chanbeyleege and Ibrahim Mamdhooh, 27, Shiuma Manzil – was arrested back in October on suspicion of stealing a speedboat from Thilafushi lagoon.
According to an earlier remand order, the two suspects, after stealing the speedboat docked at Thilafushi lagoon, had vandalized the vessel and stolen an engine gear.
Their latest remand order states both suspects have admitted to their crimes and requested to enter into plea agreements with the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The remand order also states both suspects have sought leniency for their remand, citing that both of their mothers require dialysis and that they have to care for two young children.
However, Judge Saffath Habeeb, who presided over the case, decided against granting leniency and extended their remand by 30 more days.
As per the remand order, they are suspects of a felony.
While both of them have a prior arrest record, charges have been sought against them with respect to the speedboat theft.
