An office named "Maldives Trade and Tourism Promotion" has officially opened in Kunming City, China.
Minister of Economic Development Ahmed Mohamed officially inaugurated the office, during a recent visit by senior officials from Economic and Tourism ministries to China.
Speaking of the initiative, Deputy Minister ad the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal told Sun that the office is currently staffed by two Chinese citizens and that it will function without any government expenditure. He said that efforts to promote tourism will be made through the office at a larger scale, in the near future.
“The office will work to promote Maldives, to bring in investments to Maldives, to carry out different promotions and to bring in journalists (to Maldives, it will function as) a very wide office,” Maleeh said.
He said that the office will work to attract high-end tourists from China and that more such office will be set up in China in the future.
