Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on Saturday declared that the absence of a certain figure among its ranks will not have any negative impacts on public support for PPM ahead of the Local Council Elections.
Speaking at PPM’s press conference regarding the local elections, the party’s Deputy Secretary General Iqbal Adam made the comment in response to an inquiry whether PPM will lose votes over the party’s dismissal of its leader, Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, last Monday and the close-down of his office on Friday.
“I don’t want to speak names, but the absence of a certain figure takes nothing away from this party,” he said, declaring PPM still boasts hope and a future.
Iqbal proclaimed that PPM is taking every step to win the Local Council Elections with campaign teams carrying out activities in several atolls across the archipelago.
“Our aim is to dispatch teams to all atolls of the Maldives during the campaign.”
The Local Council Elections are scheduled for May 6 with 522 candidates to compete from PPM.
