The United Nations (UN) did not call on the Maldives to release the former president Mohamed Nasheed who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terror charges، Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon said.
In an exclusive interview with PSM، Dunya، who is current in New York to attend UN General Assembly، said that the media reports of Ban Ki-moon calling on the immediate release of Nasheed are all false.
She said during the meeting held with the UN Secretary General، Ban Ki Moon was briefed on the political situation in Maldives.
Dunya said that Ban Ki-moon has assured that UN will not interfere in the internal politics in the Maldives.
In addition، Foreign Minister told PSM that she had briefed UN Secretary General with the developments of the former president’s case.
