The co-chair of Economic Council of the government, Ahmed Zuhoor have said that the government plans to take 25 dollars as airport development charge from Maldivians as well.
Speaking at the parliament’s budget oversight committee Minister Zuhoor said that around 1 billion dollars will be spent on airport development and that money is needed somehow. Zuhoor said that levying a development charge is a practiced model everywhere and the best practice is to charge all the passengers. Zuhoor said that the final decision will be made by the parliament but the government wants to take this tax.
Minister said that the tax will be taken from international passengers only and not for local flights. Minister repeated that, it will be the parliament that will make the final decision in this matter.
Even now foreigners are charged with 25 dollars as airport development charge.
