Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel، who was impeached in July this year، has called on the President Abdulla Yameen to release the former president Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on terrorism charges.
On a tweet posted، ex-VP called upon president Yameen to release Nasheed and other political prisoners، and to obey the international legal obligations.
He posted another tweet saying that President Yameen must allow democracy to function in the Maldives، stop arrest and detention of politicians.
UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has opinionated that former president Nasheed was imprisoned illegally، should be released and paid with compensation for his days spent in prison.
