Dhivehi Language Ministry has held discussions with Maldives Police Service regarding poetry therapy for victims.
Officials from the Dhivehi Language Ministry and the Maldives Police Service’s Victim Support Department held discussions on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim, senior ministry officials, Head of the Victim Support Department Superintendent of Police Anwar Naeem, and other relevant department staff.
According to the Police, discussions during the meeting centered on collaborations between authorities in the field of mental health and efforts that can be undertaken with the participation of the public.
Discussions were also held on using poetry therapy to treat mental illnesses.
Police said Dhivehi Language Ministry also affirmed their commitment to support the Victim Support Unit in conducting various research.
The meeting is part of a series of meetings being held with various organizations regarding improving the services provided to the public by the Victim Support Department.
Minister Adam Naseer announced plans to begin poetry therapy for mental illness back in January, while addressing a Poetry Day function.
In May, Heritage Ministry announced that the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy has approved “lhen faruvaa” as a Dhivehi phrase for poetry therapy. The Ministry has also signed an agreement with the Maldives National University (MNU) to conduct academic research into poetry therapy.
The Ministry said the esearch will focus on how and to what extent Dhivehi poems can be used to treat various mental illnesses.
