On Sunday, the Maldives defeated Nepal 53-46 in the third SABA Women's Championship in New Delhi, India, securing a place in the final.
While the Maldives was playing with a significant lead, Nepal called a timeout during the third quarter after reducing the gap. Before the end of that quarter, Nepal took a one-point lead at 35-34. However, in the final quarter's 10 minutes, the Maldives improved their game and confidently won the match.
Unlike previous years, only three teams are competing in this year's tournament. Playing in a round-robin format, the top two teams will advance to tomorrow's final.
The Maldives will face India in the final. In the tournament's first match on Sunday, India defeated Nepal 113-32.
In the last match of the round-robin stage, the Maldives and India will meet this evening.
The Maldives has won bronze medals in the previous two tournaments. However, this year marks the first time they have secured an opportunity to win either gold or silver.
Nepal was the runner-up in both 2016 and 2022. While reigning champion Sri Lanka is not competing this year, this is India's first time participating.
