With a high number of dead and ill pigeons being found on the streets of Male', the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare conducted tests to see if the pigeons had contracted influenza.
The ministry said today that the tests for influenza had come back negative.
With this, the ministry has now decided to conduct further tests to determine if the pigeons are being poisoned.
A media official from the ministry confirmed to Mihaaru News that influenza tests were conducted last Thursday. They said that all the tests came back negative.
The deceased pigeons have scabs or marks near the eyes and beak, which is a common symptom of bird influenza.
