Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusan has fired a stark warning to drug traffickers to rid the country of the drug trade.
Responding to questions during the Parliament sitting on Tuesday, Minister Ihusan said the incumbent government has made major strides to put an end to the drug trade which has been plaguing the island nation for over three decades.
To combat the drug trade, authorities have specifically targeted drug traffickers through raids and mass arrests, the Minister said, adding that such efforts will receive a major boost when the new anti-drug Act comes into force.
"We have divided the country sectorally to arrest drug traffickers and bring them to justice. We will get sweeping powers to do this once the proposed drug law is passed by Parliament. But we are making major strides already. Fuvahmulah City is an example. We have managed to destroy the biggest drug network in the city,” he explained.
The Minister fired a stark warning to drug traffickers to end their illicit trade before authorities catch up to them, vowing to clean up the streets of the country for good.
He also voiced confidence that this Administration would be able to make a major dent on the drug trade before the end of its term.
