Tourism Ministry has made an announcement seeking eligible investors to submit their interest to develop 18 resorts across the Maldives of which five will be specifically for halal tourism.
The five areas that have been allocated for halal tourism are as follows:
Haa Alifu Atoll Beenaafushi – 2.21 hectares
Haa Alifu Atoll Kan’daalifinolhu – 5.05 hectares
A plot of lagoon from Haa Dhaalu Atoll Makunudhoo Faru – 200 hectares
Shaviyani Atoll Fushifaru – 4.34 hectares
Laamu Atoll Fonagaadhoo – 8.18 hectares
The remaining 13 areas are:
Three plots of lagoon from Haa Alifu Atoll Maadhuni Faru – 200 hectares each
Two plots of lagoon from Haa Alifu Atoll Kelaa Falhu – Plot 1 156.3 hectares and Plot 2 169.3 hectares
Two plots of lagoon from Haadhaalu Atoll Makunudhoo Faru – 200 hectares each
Three plots of lagoon from Haa Dhaalu Atoll Maafaru – 200 hectares each
Three plots of lagoon from Shaviyani Atoll Gonaa Faru – 200 hectares each
According to Tourism Ministry, interested parties can attend information sessions which will be held virtually regarding the development of these resorts on December 6th and January 6th.
They have been instructed to email to join the information session with their name, email address and phone number to [email protected] before 12:00pm on December 6th and January 5th, respectively.
The bid submission is scheduled for 11:00pm on February 3rd.
The application form to purchase the bid document can be obtained from the Ministry’s website.
The bid document will be available for purchase from the Ministry’s reception (Velanaage 5th floor) from November 23rd to February 2nd between 9:00am and 12:00pm.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the government’s decision to designate several islands exclusively for the development of halal tourism, accompanied by substantial incentives for investors, in a move aimed at diversifying and enhancing the Maldives’ tourism offerings, on June 27th.
