Police closes down three drug cafés in Kaashidhoo; arrests two men

Maldives Police Service, on Tuesday, announced they closed down three drug cafés in operation at K. Kaashidhoo.
Drug cafés are establishments that serve as hotspots for the sale of drugs on a café-like basis.
According to the Police, a special operation was conducted in Kaashidhoo following a tip informing drugs were being smuggled into the island. In this regard, the Police detailed that as part of the operation, individuals suspected of drug dealing and locations linked to illegal drug activity were searched, leading to the discovery and closure of three suspected drug cafés.
Two men were arrested during the operation: Hassan Munaz, 40, M. Nalhiyaa Manzil, Male’ and Ibrahim Zaid, 46, Binunimaage, Male’.
The Police said they were arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs in Kaashidhoo, its sale and use.
As per the Police, substances suspected to be drugs were found on both individuals when they were stopped and searched on Kaashidhoo roads. The preliminary weight of the suspected drugs was placed at 9.27 grams.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
