Four people – three men and a woman – were arrested from Hulhumale’ on Tuesday with a large quantity of narcotics and over MVR 4,500 in suspected drug money.
According to a statement released by the police on Thursday, the four people were arrested in a joint operation by Counter-Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement.
The suspects arrested in the case include a woman and three men, two of whom are Bangladeshi nationals.
They were identified as:
Safik, 40, Bangladesh
Farook Chaukidar, 50, Bangladesh
Shaana, 32, Maavaharu 5, Hulhumale’, K. Male’
Ahmed Saffan, 26, Maavasge, Sh. Feydhoo
According to the police, the four were arrested in raids on two apartments in Hulhumale’ on Tuesday.
During the search of the properties, the police confiscated 24.06 grams of suspected narcotics, 363 pills of a controlled drug weighing 37.6 grams, and over MVR 4,500 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs.
They were presented before a judge for their remand hearing on Wednesday.
According to police, Shana was remanded in custody for 10 days, while the other three were remanded for 15 days.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
