Hulhumale’ Phase III reclamation progresses to halfway point

The reclamation works on Hulhumale’ Phase III has now progressed to the halfway point, reports Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
The reclamation of land from Hulhumale’ Phase III was initiated in September 2023 under the then-President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s ‘Binveriya’ housing project. Sri Lankan-based Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private Limited (CMCC) was contracted to reclaim a total of 63 hectares. 23 hectors were reclaimed before the project stalled.

It restarted again on November 10.
Providing an update on the project on Sunday, MACL said the reclamation works were progressing steadily, with two 22,000 CBM dredgers, Prins der Nederlanden and Oranje actively operating on-site.

A total of 31 hectors has now been reclaimed, bringing the halfway progress close to the halfway point.
“A total of 31 hectares out of 63 hectares has now been reclaimed, bringing overall progress to 49.2%,” said the MACL.

CMCC has said that it expects dredging works on both Hulhumale’ Phase III and Giraavaru Falhu to be completed within the next three months.
Once reclamations works are done in Hulhumale’, the dredgers will be sent to Giraavaru.
