JP to compete for all seats in Local Council Elections

The second largest party in the government coalition, Jumhooree Party (JP), has decided to compete for all the seats in the upcoming local council elections. The decision was made following a council meeting of the party.
JP said it will contest for mayors, council presidents, councillors, council seats allocated for women and women development committees. The party requested all interested candidates to submit their nominations to receive party tickets.
Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) will hold the local council elections on April 4. A total of 980 councillors will be elected, including 4 mayors, 179 council presidents and 923 councillors which includes 372 women. Additionally, 929 members will be elected to women’s development committees.
