China Donates $ 500,000 to Maldives

Chinese Ambassador to Maldives, H.E. Mr. Wang Fukang has today announced that the Government of China is donating $500,000 Grant Aid to the Government of Maldives, as part of the China’s immediate relief effort to the water crisis in Male. The Grant Aid will be used for the purchase of the water for the people in Male and for the maintenance work toward restoring MWSC to normality.
Today, 2 more commercial flights carrying 45 tons of bottled water from China have arrived via Guangzhou and Colombo respectively.
In the meantime, with careful coordination and kind support from all relevant Maldivian authorities, the Chinese Naval Ship Chang Xing Dao is arriving tonight around 23:00 with 600 tons of drinking water to discharge immediately, and 90 tons to be produced each day in the coming days.
Following that, two Chinese Air Force crafts will be arriving late tonight around 12:30 with 40 tons of bottled drinking water.
More relief efforts are being made by the Chinese side with the aim to further relieve the challenge faced by the Maldivian side.
The Government and People of China wish to join hands with the Government and People of Maldives to address any challenges faced together.
