17kg of drugs found in search following assault report

A man has been arrested with a large quantity of drugs after police searched an apartment in Hulhumale' Phase II in response to an assault report.
According to Maldives Police Service, officers received a report of an assault at 01:31 hours, late on Sunday evening. When they arrived at the apartment, located in an MPL tower, they found signs of a scuffle and property damage, but no other individuals at the scene.
During the search, police recovered 17.3 kilograms of suspected narcotics. A 24-year-old Maldivian man was arrested in connection with the case.
He was later presented before the Criminal Court and remanded in custody until the conclusion of his trial.
The case is under investigation by the Drug Enforcement Department and Hulhumale' Police Station.
Drug trafficking and abuse remain among the most pressing social issues in the Maldives, with many young people implicated in such cases.
