Gov’t has developed heritage sector to unprecedented level, says Heritage Minister

The current administration has developed the heritage sector to an unprecedented level, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has stated.
The Minister made the remarks at a ceremony awarding prizes for literary and handwriting competitions organised by the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy, translated as Dhivehi Language Academy.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister highlighted that the government has formulated three key policies to develop and preserve heritage, including generating income from heritage, making heritage part of people’s everyday experience, and digitising heritage for future generations. The Minister said although heritage was previously viewed as a burden on the state budget, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s government sees it as an area worthy of investment.
The Minister noted that several restoration and development projects of historic monuments are ongoing, and more initiatives, including a new interactive immersive museum, the first of its kind in the Maldives, are scheduled to begin in January next year. The Minister attributed the positive progress in the heritage sector to President Muizzu’s clear vision, with cooperation among relevant institutions.
