Tourist arrivals to the Maldives have surpassed the previous annual record, reaching 2.08 million visitors and marking a new milestone for the country’s tourism sector.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the total number of arrivals exceeded last year’s record of 2.04 million as of last Wednesday, making this the highest figure recorded in the nation’s history.
Arrivals have increased by 10.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, with an average of 6,065 tourists entering the country per day. China remains the largest source market, accounting for 15.3 per cent of total arrivals, continuing a trend observed in the previous year.
The Government has set a target of welcoming 2.3 million tourists by the end of the year.
To sustain growth, promotional activities have been intensified through Visit Maldives across both established and emerging markets. In parallel, new tourism-related initiatives are being introduced, including the promotion of halal tourism and the issuance of the country’s first permit for a sustainable township under the Special Economic Zone framework.
