Several major development projects were launched in Raa Dhuvaafaru on Saturday as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to the island, covering harbour infrastructure, policing, renewable energy and healthcare expansion.
Practical works for the Dhuvaafaru Harbour Extension project were inaugurated by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib. The project is aimed at increasing harbour capacity while improving safety and accessibility for vessels serving the island.
As part of efforts to decentralise essential public services, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new police station in Raa Dhuvaafaru was conducted by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan. The facility is expected to strengthen policing capacity and improve service delivery for residents.
A renewable energy initiative titled Irun Hakatha was launched by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar. The project forms part of the Government’s national target to generate 33 per cent of electricity from renewable sources by 2028 and aims to reduce household electricity costs while promoting environmental sustainability. A dedicated Solar Energy portal was also inaugurated as part of the launch.
Developments in the health sector were marked with the launch of a theatre complex project for the expansion of the Dhuvaafaru Health Centre. Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim inaugurated the initiative, which forms part of broader plans to upgrade the facility and transition it into a hospital offering expanded medical services.
