During the meeting, Siyam and Ambassador Rizvi reflected on the strong friendship between the two nations. Siyam noted that Sri Lankans have long supported Maldivians, whether through teachers, economic activities, or other services, and described Sri Lanka as one of Maldives’ closest neighbors.
He also highlighted Sri Lanka’s swift assistance during disasters, calling it a symbol of the enduring relationship between the two countries. “It is also a religious obligation for Maldivians to help Sri Lanka at such a time of disaster,” Siyam said, adding: “We will also be safe in the future by holding the hands of those who are experiencing such disasters.”

Ambassador Rizvi expressed gratitude for the assistance, describing it as a significant gesture that reflects the brotherly bond between Maldivians and Sri Lankans. “This is no small thing… no small thing for the people of Maldives to help us so,” he said.
