ACC, Police launch joint investigation into PCR test corruption

Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has ordered the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and the police to conduct a joint investigation into alleged corruption involving PCR testing at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) during the Covid-19 pandemic.
An ACC media official confirmed to Mihaaru News that the PGO instructed the commission and the police to collaborate on the investigation.
The case involves former IGMH CEO Ibrahim Saleem (Kudabandhey), Dr Ali Latheef who chaired the hospital’s procurement committee during the pandemic and former laboratory head Dr Milza Abdul Muhusin. The three are accused of providing reagents used for PCR tests to a private company. ACC forwarded the case to PGO in August last year.
Dr Ali Latheef played a key role in pandemic response, serving as Chairman of the Procurement Committee, a member of the Medical Executive Committee, the Technical Advisory Committee, and the Technical Advisory Group.
ACC had previously stated that Saleem, Dr Ali Latheef, and Dr Milza were charged with abuse of official position.
ACC also requested the police to investigate alleged money laundering by Dr Ali Latheef and his involvement in RMLS as a separate case.
The commission also found evidence of fraudulent tax documents submitted by Dr Ali Latheef to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).
