The Maldives Immigration has officially launched passport services in Shaviyani Atoll, allowing residents to collect passports applied for online without having to travel to Malé. The service was inaugurated by Controller General of Immigration, Mohamed Shamaan Waheed.
As part of a nationwide initiative to decentralize passport and National ID services, this project was launched on November 16th to make these essential services more accessible to citizens. So far, passport services have been introduced in nine atolls, as well as in Malé, Hulhumalé Phase 1, Phase 2, and Vilimalé.
According to Immigration, their goal is to extend passport services to all atolls by the end of this year
