Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced that 1,222 tons of cargo were shipped from the Maldives to international destinations through its sea-to-air cargo service in the first six months of 2025.
The cargo was transported in 271 TEU containers between January and June under the service operated in collaboration with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). This multimodal logistics service, launched in March 2024, enables goods arriving by sea to be re-exported via air.
Initially launched with Turkish Airlines, the service now includes 10 international carriers, with cargo exported to 15 destinations, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and various European countries.
MPL stated that the initiative has generated several million dollars in revenue for the Maldivian economy and continues to show potential for expansion given the number of international airlines operating to the Maldives.
