The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has revealed that it received a total of 8,681 complaints last year.
The figures were disclosed at a ceremony held at the CSC office to inaugurate its Complaints Module. The module was launched by the Maldives National University (MNU)’s Chancellor, Dr Mahamood Shougee.
The Complaints Module aims to streamline the submission and handling of complaints related to services provided by the government through the civil service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Shougee stressed the importance of submitting and responding to complaints, and noted that it will further strengthen the services provided. He further noted that enhanced accessibility to complaints submission is likely to increase the number of complaints lodged.
"Everyone working in this field must work with honesty, integrity and sincerity. Receiving, accepting and addressing complaints demonstrate the transparency and genuine commitment of service providers,” he said.
In recent years, the Civil Service Commission has received an average of 7,118 complaints annually. Last year, 8,681 complaints were submitted to the commission, of which 8,631 were addressed.
The objectives of the new Complaints Module include strengthening the complaint submission and response system, ensuring prompt attention to complaints, improving monitoring of responses, and strengthening the appeals system where complainants are dissatisfied with an agency's response to a complaint. It also includes further strengthening the monitoring and record-keeping of responses by civil service agencies.
According to CSC, through this module, the complainant will receive instant updates on the status of their submissions, while maintaining all related documentation. Through this system, both civil service employees and the general public will have the opportunity to submit complaints directly to the commission or individual agencies. Once complaints are successfully submitted, these agencies will be able to respond to the complaints.
