Criminal Court claims grounds for trial proceedings in Nasheed's assassination attempt case

The Criminal Court of Maldives on Monday, ruled that there was legal grounds for a trial on the assassination attempt on the parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
The court declared that there was room to charge the six suspects with indictable offenses from a private law perspective.
The six suspects against state is prosecuting charges of attempted homicide and terrorism includes; Thahmeen Ahmed (G.A. Kondey), Ali Haisham (N. Manadhoo), Mujaz Ahmed (Male'), Ishaag (Male'), Mohamed Nazim (Male'), and Fahmy Ali (G.A. Vilingili).
In 2021, the former president became the target of an attempted assassination when a parked motorcycle next to his private automobile exploded.
Investigations into the explosion revealed that the explosive device was triggered using a remote detonator, and the explosive was in fact an IED (Improvised Explosive Device).
Presiding judges of the case on Monday declared that after evaluating the evidences in the case, the judges' bench had found there was grounds for a trial proceeding through private law route.
The case has run into a strange obstacle in light of the several grammatical and syntax errors in the charge-sheet. This issue was brought forward by one of the defense lawyers, for which the judges' bench had given clarity.
Meanwhile, the defense attorney requested for additional time since several evidences pertaining to the case were analyzed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Additionally, Maldives Police Service sent the discovered video footage to Australia for forensic testing.
However, prosecution had claimed that they were uncertain when they will receive the evidence from the foreign authorities.
Judges' bench decided on proceeding the case forward in light of the reports provided by the state regarding the case.
