Sandhaanu Ahammaidhy detention case filed in court

Ahammaidhy was taken to Dhoonidhoo detention centre early Friday morning at around 1:30 am. He was detained after he was summoned to police regarding the credibility of his remarks against the government on Thursday evening. It is yet unknown if court had accepted the case or not. Police later released Ahammaidhy around 7pm Friday evening, “we have taken the information needed for investigation” Police said after his release. The police had earlier released the Deputy President of DQP Dr. Mohamed Jameel who was also brought in for questioning with Ahammaidhy over the same allegations. The two DQP members had been summoned to the police to investigate claims that the government was working with Christians against Islamic scholars. A crowd had gathered in the republic square and later moved near the official residence of the President "Muliaage" to protest against the detention of the two DQP members.
