China has offered assistance to cover Addu damages: Minister
He also said that the police service and the judiciary have been asked to draft a project in relation to the offer by China. “If we want to seek foreign assistance we need to submit such projects to take it forward. The government of China has proposed to assist in recovering the damages in Addu,” Minister said. Ahmed Mohamed also noted that whether the offer of the Chinese was a loan or a free aid is yet to be determined. Home ministry had earlier valued the damages to state property due to the acts of vandalism on the 8th of last month at Rf183 million. In the statistics revealed by the ministry, the illegal activities carried out in the islets had inflicted most damage to police stations, vehicles, and equipment which amounts to Rf112 million. The damages to the court houses in the atolls total up to Rf50 million, while the island councils and institutions under its care suffered Rf17 million worth of damages.
