Following the arrest of the former President Mohamed Nasheed، European Union (EU)، Switzerland and Norway have shown their concerns.
In a joint statement released، the Ambassadors of EU، Switzerland and Norway in Colombo said they are deeply concerned over the court denying appropriate legal representation of Nasheed in the court hearing on Monday.
The statement further read they are seeking further clarification to the charges pressed against Nasheed، and urged the authorities to treat everyone fairly.
“The EU Delegation reiterates the importance of respect for democratic principles، including respect for the rule of law، for the Constitution، for due legal process and for the independence of the judiciary.”
