Amal Clooney – a member of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s international advocate team – is expected to meet with Nasheed who is currently doing time for a 13 year jail sentence for terrorism charges.
According to former President Nasheed’s secretariat Mrs Clooney is expected to visit his client at K. Maafushi jail sometime in the afternoon today.
Mrs Clooney arrived in Maldives sometime yesterday in order to meet with her client Mohamed Nasheed as well as his advocate team present in Maldives and state leaders over the ‘unjust’ ruling of a 13 year jail sentence on him over terrorism charges.
Another member of Nasheed’s international advocate team، Mr. Jared Genser is expected to arrive in Maldives on Wednesday (tomorrow).
Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s secretariat informs that Mrs Clooney and Mr Genser will both be working over their client’s case until the 10th of September.
The international advocate team of Mr. Nasheed has requested to hold meetings with President Yameen Abdul Gayoom، Vice President Ahmed Adeeb، Home Minister Mr. Umar Naseer and Prosecutor General Mr. Muhuthaz Muhusin.
