High Court of the Maldives has concluded the hearings of former President Yameen’s appeal case. His lawyers have appealed the detention order issued by the Criminal Court.
The former president is being charged with money laundering and in the pre-trial hearing of the case, the prosecutors requested to detain him until the end of his trial. Criminal Court granted the request and he was detained on the same day.
President Yameen’s lawyers appealed the case at the High Court of the Maldives the following day but the case was scheduled at the court after almost a month.
Today’s hearing was not open to the public. Usually, the court holds just one hearing on appeal cases on detention. In the next hearing, the court will issue a verdict.
