The Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has announced a minimum ten percent discount on water bills for domestic customers during Ramadan.
During Ramadan, households typically experience an increase in water and electricity consumption.
According to MWSC, in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s directive to offer discounts on water and electricity bills during Ramadan, the company will apply discounts to April water bills such that the total amount does not exceed an average month’s bill.
MWSC said the “normal monthly bill” will be calculated based on the average water and electricity bills from the past year, excluding February, March and April. If a household’s upcoming bill for April exceeds this average, the excess amount will be deducted as a discount. If the deduction is less than ten percent of the April bill, the discount will be adjusted to match a minimum of ten percent.
Additionally, if the April bill amount is lower than the normal monthly bill, they will still receive a ten percent discount. New meter installations billed in April as well as previously registered customers receiving their first bills in April will also receive the discount.
