Russia has emerged as the second-largest source market for tourism to the Maldives in 2025, with over 100,000 Russian tourists having visited the country so far this year. According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Tourism, 101,837 Russian tourists arrived in the Maldives as of May 25.
Russia, which held the third spot at the end of 2024, has now surpassed other markets to claim second place, trailing only China. China continues to lead the rankings with 111,217 arrivals this year.
The top ten source markets for 2025 so far include China, Russia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, India, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Australia.
Tourism statistics indicate that between January 1 and May 25, the Maldives welcomed a total of 942,427 tourists — an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded 872,228 arrivals. On average, the Maldives receives approximately 6,499 tourists per day.
Most visitors choose to stay at resorts, with 672,165 tourists opting for resort accommodations. Guesthouses hosted 218,838 tourists during the same period.
The Ministry of Tourism has licensed 1,199 tourist facilities across the Maldives, with 1,191 currently in operation. This includes 175 resorts, 842 guesthouses, 158 safari vessels, and 16 hotels, offering a combined bed capacity of 63,172.
In 2024, the Maldives achieved a milestone by welcoming two million tourists. The government has set a target of attracting 2.3 million visitors by the end of 2025.
