The Adhaalath Party, a significant political force in the Maldives, marked its 20th anniversary on Monday, with Party President Imran Abdulla affirming the party's enduring dedication to upholding the rights of the people.
In a video address shared on social media, Imran reflected on the party's origins, noting that it emerged from a period of heightened political unrest in the early 21st century. He highlighted that the burgeoning political reform movement at the time prompted then-President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to permit the formation of political parties.
Abdulla recalled that the establishment of a political party rooted in Islamic values, which ultimately became the Adhaalath Party, was a widely discussed concept among scholars first. He emphasized that the party's official registration on August 18, 2005, was the result of extensive efforts by numerous scholars and professionals.
"Today marks the 20th anniversary of that great historic work," Abdulla stated. "Adhaalath Party has played an important role in every major movement carried out by the people of Maldives in the past 20 years."

He further underscored the party's consistent engagement in social, religious, and reform initiatives in recent years, attributing these achievements to the diligent work of its dedicated members.
Abdulla expressed pride that the Adhaalath Party stands as one of only two parties to have continuously served the Maldives for the past two decades. He asserted that the party has consistently defended the populace whenever government policies have become corrupted, the political atmosphere tarnished, or the rights and interests of citizens compromised.
Looking forward, Imran Abdulla assured that the party will continue its pursuit of justice and truth, pledging unwavering support for the people in times of struggle.
Notably, the Adhaalath Party has been a member of all government coalitions with the exception of the current administration. Imran Abdulla, who has led the party for many years, previously served as the Home Minister in the preceding government.
According to the Election Commission, the Adhaalath Party currently boasts a membership of 8,844 individuals.
