Republican (Jumhooree) Party has expressed disapproval over President Nasheed keeping his silence on MDP’s call at a protest held last night, to put leaders of opposition parties to death.
Speaking at a news conference held at VTV, the Secretary General of Republican Party Fuad Gasim said that, while the President condemned the publication on a website calling for the death of people who work against Islam in the country, he keeps his silence when MDP members call for the death of the leaders of opposition parties. He called for the President to treat all Maldivians fairly and also to condemn the aforementioned statements made by MDP last night.
“We are surprised that the President spoke about something written on a website, but failed to comment on MDP’s protest which was broadcast live on MNBC, where MDP’s Chairperson and Parliamentary members publicly called for the death of certain people,” Fuad said.
Republican Party heavily criticised and condemned MDP for threatening the President of Republican Party Gasim Ibrahim, by calling for the closure of his bank accounts and disowning him of his personal properties.
