A project has been launched to develop AutoPot greenhouse farms in Sh. Goidhoo, with nearly half a million Rufiyaa in funding from the Sh. Atoll Council.
The government news website ‘Sarukaaru’, quoting sources from the Sh. Atoll, reported that the initiative is designed to introduce modern farming in the atoll, and promote interest for farming.
The project will see the development of two AutoPot greenhouse farms measuring 1,000 square feet each.
According to the government, the Sh. Atoll Council released MVR 450,120 in funding for the project.
The project was contracted to Prime Fertilizers Maldives.
Once done, the management of the farms will be handed over to the Goidhoo Council.
The Sh. Atoll Council has said they plan on running similar projects in other islands of the atoll based on the success of the pilot project.
The project in Goidhoo has been welcomed by the Agriculture Ministry, which said it will develop modern farming in the Sh. Atoll and create employment opportunities.
