The Maldives Police Service (MPS) and Maldives National University (MNU) have signed an agreement to collaborate on research in the field of national security.
The partnership aims to enhance cooperation between the two institutions in research, knowledge development, and policy formulation on security-related matters. The agreement seeks to enrich knowledge and information on national security issues at a national level, identify strategic challenges, promote strong inter-agency collaboration, and support evidence-based policymaking.
The agreement was signed by MNU Vice-Chancellor Dr Aishath Shehenaz on behalf of the university, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Abdul Rahman on behalf of the Maldives Police Service.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Shehenaz said the agreement would bring significant growth to the university's Centre for Security and Strategic Studies.
"It aims to increase awareness of national security interests at the national level, promote research in this field, encourage collaboration between national institutions, and facilitate policy formulation based on research findings. It also seeks to strengthen long-term partnerships and cooperation with national security agencies,” she said.
Shehenaz said the agreement will also create fellowship opportunities for MNU academic staff and police officers in the field of security research. She noted that the initiative demonstrates MNU’s ongoing commitment to developing human resources through research and contributing to national development efforts.
