Abdul Latheef Mohamed (Latheebey), the Member of Parliament for the Dhihdhoo constituency, has announced that the vessel carrying the equipment required for the land reclamation needed to develop an airport in Haa Alifu Dhihdhoo will dock in Dhihdhoo in about 15 days.
Latheef made this statement while speaking at a ceremony held in Dhihdhoo yesterday to lay the foundation stone for the new five-story building of the Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital.
In his speech, Latheef mentioned that the President had made three pledges for Dhihdhoo. Latheef stated that these were the pledge for the new building of the Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital, the pledge to develop an airport on the island, and the pledge to establish an international-standard football stadium on the island.
Noting that two of these pledged projects (the new hospital building and the airport) have been contracted to MTCC, Latheef expressed his desire for the third project (the international-standard football stadium) to also be contracted to the same company. He added that he has full confidence that if the work is contracted to MTCC, they will complete it on schedule. He also mentioned that the government has informed him that the project to develop the international-standard football stadium will also be contracted out very soon.
“This is very happy news for the people of Dhihdhoo. I want to inform the people of Dhihdhoo that, God willing, the vessel will dock within the next ten to fifteen days. The government has informed me that, God willing, the airport land reclamation work will commence,” Latheef said.
Latheef made a strong appeal to the island’s residents for their assistance and cooperation in this matter. He also stated that with this cooperation, the project work can be successfully carried forward.
While the foundation stone for the new five-story building of the Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital, which is agreed to be completed by MTCC, was laid yesterday, the building is planned to be developed as a 50-bed facility offering many modern services. As part of this project, it has been decided to establish an isolation facility, a Radiology Department, a Waste Management Center, an industrial laundry, and an oxygen plant.
Furthermore, the Haa Alifu Atoll Hospital has provided information that once the building is completed and operational, services such as X-ray, CT scan, MRI, mammography, and ultrasound scan will be available.
