Articulating a clear mandate for the government, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim announced a strategic expansion of investments in science and technology to deepen public trust in the healthcare sector.
In a special address commemorating World Health Day, Minister Abdulla Nazim outlined a strategic vision to sustain a medical system that commands the absolute confidence of citizens, noting that the occasion serves as a critical reminder of physical, mental, and social well-being across individual, familial, community, and national levels.
Aligned with the World Health Organization theme, "Together for health. Stand with science," the minister highlighted that integrating scientific methodologies is essential to ensure initiatives are rooted in modern science, empirical laboratory results, technical expertise, and practical experience.
"Whether undertaking proactive measures for disease prevention, conducting diagnostic tests and analyses, monitoring the epidemiological spread of illnesses, fortifying immunities, or administering clinical treatments, we leverage medical science, modern technology, and advanced resources to formulate decisions optimally tailored to the targeted health challenges of the individual or the broader prevailing conditions of our nation," Minister Abdulla Nazim said.
Attributing historical achievements, including successful immunisation campaigns, the total eradication of specific diseases, and advancements in medical treatments, to evidence-based data, Minister Abdulla Nazim described the Maldives as a technologically fluent nation where health policies remain shaped by scientific clarity.
"Our comprehensive initiatives and their associated policies, spanning primary and preventive care, safeguarding the public from the tobacco epidemic, the early detection of non-communicable diseases, combating antimicrobial resistance, halting the transmission of tuberculosis and HIV, administering preventative medications and immunisations, maintaining comprehensive health records, and advancing telemedicine and telehealth, are fundamentally anchored in the proven findings of medical science," he said.
To ensure quality, safety, and accessibility across all public health services and hospitals, the minister assured that the administration is actively increasing strategic investments in medical research, the procurement of cutting-edge technologies, and robust professional capacity building to ensure the enduring resilience of the national healthcare system.
