President reshuffles special cabinet committee on Middle East

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, has reconstituted the special cabinet committee established to respond to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, following a recent cabinet reshuffle.
The committee, which was originally formed on 28 February 2026, was restructured during a cabinet meeting held on 15 April. The move comes as the government seeks to maintain close oversight of developments in the region and their potential economic and diplomatic implications for Maldives.
The new committee will now be chaired by Moosa Zameer, the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises. Other members include Iruthisham Adam, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade; Ahmed Shiyam, Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources; and Mohamed Ameen, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Previously the committee had nine cabinet members. With the change, now five cabinet members preside over the committee. The committee has been providing weekly updates to the public on government efforts to mitigate the impact due to the middle east conflict.
