56 hectares of land reclaimed in Rasmale’ Site A

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has confirmed that 56 hectares have been reclaimed from Rasmale’ Site A.
A total of 1,009 hectares is planned to be reclaimed for Rasmale’, with a total of 137.5 hectares to be reclaimed for Site A. The reclamation project commenced by the government is to provide a solution to the housing issues that have plagued the country for decades.
The work for the land reclamation efforts in Site A of Rasmale’ began on the 01 December, with MACL confirming that one and a half hectares are being dredged each day and so far 41 percent of the project has been completed.
To advance work across the twelve designated zones, the Maldives Airports Company Limited deployed advanced dredging equipment, including the Cristóbal Colón, one of the world’s largest trailer suction hopper dredgers. Since its arrival in early December, officials have reported a reclamation rate exceeding one hectare per day, with twenty-three hectares completed in just eighteen days.
Once finished, development will proceed according to the Rasmale’ Master Plan, which envisions an eco-city with full municipal infrastructure. The government is currently looking for a consultant to develop the Master Plan. The government has also revealed the necessary steps are being taken to open the applications for housing schemes in Rasmale’.
